Operations Role and Objectives:

We are seeking Operations employees to join our team at Kalesnikoff. We are looking for candidates who are interested in a growth opportunity in a production environment, acquiring training in various job centers throughout our two facilities between Castlegar and Nelson, BC to provide support where needed.

 

Compensation Package:

  • Wage: $28.50 per hour.
  • Shift premiums: Nightshift: $.50 per hour, Weekend: $3:00 per hour.

Hours of Work:

Weekday Monday to Thursday rotating 10-hour shifts every 2 weeks: 5:30 AM to 4:00 PM (Dayshift) and 4:00 PM to 2:30 AM (Evening shift)

 

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or General Equivalent Diploma (GED).
  • One year’s experience working with machinery in a manufacturing setting is considered an asset.
  • A commitment to safety in the workplace.
  • Flexible approach to work tasks with a willingness to support other departments as required.
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and cooperatively within a team.
  • Must have a reliable method of transportation.

Requirements:

  • Completion of a post-secondary program is considered an asset.
  • Experience in Timber Framing, Fine Woodworking, Cabinet Making or other woodworking skills
  • Experience with species identification an asset
  • Ability to use measuring devices, such as (but not limited to) tape measure both imperial and metric, calipers.
  • Ability to read blueprints/shop drawings.
  • Excellent Communication skills
  • Physically capable of performing repetitive movements and occasionally lifting up to 55 pounds.
  • Ability to work independently and cooperatively within a team.
  • Experience in a production environment would be an asset.
  • Woodworking experience would be an asset.
  • Familiarity with the use of small, handheld power tools would be an asset.

 

Job Duties

  • Understand and comply with all company policies and procedures.
  • Respect and respond to direction given.
  • Working safely near crane, forklift and other equipment.
  • Wax panels and beams in accordance with instructions
  • Apply banding, dunnage and paper wrap, per packaging procedures (can differ between projects and products, be sure to understand requirements)
  • Read shop draws and interprets next tasks, based on customer specifications, and needs.
  • Use hand-tools for squaring, sanding, and other fine finishing requirements.
  • Apply stains or coating products, in accordance with shops customer specs.
  • Apply membranes, or other materials, in accordance with shops and customer specs.
  • Apply correct stamping to panels and beams, in accordance to shop drawings/production documentation.
  • Package per diagrams, shops and customer specs and/or Team Leader instructions.
  • Labeling panels/beams and packages per internal labeling process.
  • Tracking hours on jobs and tasks and assigning appropriately to correct customer group – per shift.
  • Basic QC checks, referring customer specs and shop drawings.
  • Cut dunnage for units on the chop saw.
  • Rip inlay and other material on the table saw.
  • Measure, install and place hardware to specifications.
  • Plane down material as needed in small workshop planer.
  • Install inlays in panels or beams, when needed, per quality program.
  • Keeps working area clean.
  • Able to learn mobile or lifting equipment: Crane, Forklift, Combi-Forklift, Electric Forklift
  • Removes full wood and garbage bins as needed, to keep area flowing, and tidy.
  • Assist in training other teammates.
  • Assist in developing, reviewing, and approving role specific operations manuals and safety documentation.
  • Complete other responsibilities as assigned.

Role and Objectives:

The Financial Analyst, under the direction of the CFO, is responsible for providing analysis, financial/cost accounting and reporting while identifying areas for improvement.

Responsibilities:

  • Monitoring and analyzing budget variances.
  • Cost analysis and reporting
  • Review, analyze and report on inventory valuation, raw materials, WIP, direct and indirect labor, overhead costs, and related variances.
  • Ensure proper financial controls are in place to minimize risk.
  • Responsible for any ad-hoc reports including the tracking of key trends on a daily, weekly, or monthly basis, and capital spending initiatives.
  • Assist in the ongoing development, data accumulation and reporting of Key Performance Indicators required for decision making and achieving the Company’s Strategic Goals.
  • Assist in preparation of month end reporting and quarterly reporting.
  • Analyze various P&L line items to identify associated impact of short-term and long-term goals of the site and organization.
  • Supporting the annual operating budget and capital budget and financial forecasting process
  • Support year-end audit and reporting.
  • Preparing, analyzing, and summarizing a wide variety of financial information.
  • Assisting departments in administering their financial planning, budget and forecasting activities.
  • Identify opportunities to enhance margins and improve working capital.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Finance or Commerce
  • Minimum 2 years of work experience in finance, ideally with a manufacturing background
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills
  • A professional accounting designation (e.g., CPA) is preferred.
  • Strong financial data analysis skills
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel and relevant accounting software
  • Experience working within an ERP System considered an asset.

Role and Objectives:

The Forklift Lead Hand under the direction of the General Manager of Manufacturing, is responsible for supporting managing our Operational needs across our KLC site, including our satellite yards, excluding KMT. The Forklift Lead Hand will provide support and direction to a team operating in a forever changing environment.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Look after the health and safety of you and your crew
  • Manage the performance of the Forklift Team
  • Manage yard inventory in a way that supports full-product utilization from each sawmill & planer run
  • Keep all Team members well-educated on upcoming production requirements (sawmill/planer/kiln/shipping needs)
  • Manage the inventory of storage-related consumables
  • Operate forklift and support and assist the Team where needed
  • Manage and oversee the transfer of lumber to our Value-add facilities
  • Support Team members with daily/weekly tactical decisions
  • Maintain a two-week running schedule that meets the needs of all other departmental requirements
  • Maintain a relief pool that has the experience and skills to provide vacation/sick day relief
  • Ensure our training is consistent with the expectations of our Due Diligence program
  • Keep our SWP’s current and up-to-date
  • Work with the Maintenance Team at ensuring our assets are being operated consistent with our maintenance expectations.  Schedule maintenance opportunities that provide win-win results
  • Manage the hours on all forklifts to ensure our usage is in line with all lease agreements.

Requirements:

  • (3) years of experience as a Forklift operator.
  • High School Diploma, or equivalent GED, etc.
  • Forklift Certificate
  • Previous experience in a supervisory role is considered an asset.
  • Previous experience operating forklift in lumber manufacturing environment.
  • Proven track record of showcasing a high level of safety awareness.
  • Proven track record of showcasing strong team skills.
  • Mature and able to work unsupervised.
  • High personal standard for quality of work
  • Ability to maintain safe working behaviors and organization in a fast-paced and consistently evolving environment.
  • Commitment to getting the job done and working longer hours as needed.

Role and objectives:

The Research & Development Incentives Manager at Kalesnikoff plays a central role in our innovation strategy. Responsibilities include securing and managing incentives and funding programs, with a key focus on optimizing returns from the SR&ED tax credit program. Collaboration with operations, business development and design teams ensure alignment of research and development initiatives with our strategic objectives.

Responsibilities:

SR&ED Tax Credit Program Expertise:

  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive understanding of the SR&ED program,
  • Identify SR&ED program opportunities including eligibility assessment for R&D and improvement initiatives.
  • Organize and coordinate trial time recording within our operating and maintenance teams to ensure we maximize our SR&ED tax credit claims.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (Science, Engineering, Business, etc.).

Role and Objectives:

Our Woodlands Team works to maintain a sustainable footprint on the landscape while balancing all the important forest values. The Silviculture Forester, under the direction of the Forestry Supervisor, is responsible for supporting the Woodlands Team in all aspects of forestry with specific leadership in Silviculture, Woodlands Safety and Certification.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead and maintain all aspects of our silviculture program.
  • Prepare project budgets and corporate financial reporting summaries as required.
  • Coordinates all silvicultural/planning, contract management, GIS, record keeping/reporting, and development activities required for the implementation of annual silviculture plans.
  • Professional oversight of company silviculture activities, including planting, surveys, treatments, site preparation, and reporting
  • All office and field work related to the planning and implementation of silviculture activities, including site preparation, and planting as well as silviculture surveys.
  • Maintain company records and data, track costs and report silviculture activities.
  • Assisting with timber cruising and timber investigations.
  • May assist in cut block, road layout and assessments if required.
  • May assist with the riparian and ecosystem assessments if required.
  • Manage and liaise internal and external stakeholders.
  • Collaborate and support other Kalesnikoff business units, including Operations, Transportation, Logistics, Indigenous Relations, and Science & Certification business units.
  • Provide leadership in safety and environmental stewardship by demonstrating and ensuring the adherence of company safety and sustainability ideals, processes, and procedures.
  • Provides leadership and direction to sustain and enhance the forest resource, control, or reduce silviculture unit costs, and maximize future stand value and margins within budget.
  • Manages, trains and coaches silvicultural/planning employees and contractors at the operation.
  • Actively maintains current and potential mutually beneficial relationships with First Nations partners, Government agencies and public and private interest groups to support access to incremental fibre.
  • Participates in the consultation process with First Nations and other stakeholders, acting as a member of the information sharing team.
  • Prepare, assist in preparation, or peer review, various plans and assessments associated with cutblock development including:
  • Site Plans, Visual Impact Assessments, Burn Plans and other related silviculture projects and prepare applications as necessary.
  • Other Duties as required.

Requirements:

  • Post-secondary degree in Forestry or related degree in Natural Resource Management
  • Registration with Forest Professionals British Columbia (FPBC) and hold Registered Professional Forester (RPF) Status at the time of application.
  • 3-5 years of experience in developing and implementing silviculture programs with increasingly responsible roles
  • Ability to use basic GIS applications.
  • Thorough knowledge of the results reporting system
  • Proven ability to work in a team environment with good communication skills and an ability to speak confidently in a public setting.
  • Good working knowledge of legislation, regulations and requirements related to BC Crown land forest operations.
  • Knowledge of silvicultural and forest harvesting practices with a strong focus on improving safety, quality, and efficiency

Responsibilities:

  • Ensuring that the CNC team remains up to date with mandatory training.
  • Communicate with supervisors, engineers, production control, quality and other shop personnel for assignments and to resolve machining or quality issues.
  • Liaise with multi-disciplinary teams to identify areas of inefficiency.
  • Within the scope of the job requirements, will be required to adhere and comply with provincial and federal law, the Company ISO Quality Program and procedures, Company policies and
  • Safety and Environmental Regulations.

Requirements:

Post-secondary diploma or certification in a related field preferred.
Completion of an apprenticeship program or a combination of over four (4) years of work experience in the trade and some college or industry courses in machining.
CNC Machinist certification required.
Five (5) or more years’ of CNC experience in timber manufacturing setting is considered a requirement.
Experience with Hundegger CNC-machines and Biesse CNC-machines is required.
Ability to use CAM software “Cambium” and “DDX” is preferred.
Good MS Excel and MS Word skills
Ability to read and interpret drawings, schematics, and manuals.
Ability to operate Hundegger CNC machines.
Good technical understanding of Hundegger CNC-machines
Good communication skills
Excellent people skills and the ability to deliver hands-on training.
